Itinerary


Rio de Janeiro

December 28 - January 1

Day 1 Got settled in at our apartment, out to dinner in Ipamena, tour of Copacabana beach, hanging out in the Leme neighborhood.
Day 2 Spent the day on Ipanema beach followed by dinner at our first Brazilian Churrascaria. Out at night to the Lapa neighbohood for live Samba music.
Day 3 Full day tour of Rio - Stops at Sugarloaf Mountain and Corcovado for a view of Christ the Redeemer. Dinner at "The Girl from Ipanema" which inspired the song followed by late night drinks in Ipanema.
Day 4 New Year's Eve - Lazy day in Copacabana relaxing at a cafe on the beach followed by a return visit to our favorite churrascaria. NYE party on Copacabana beach with 2 million of our closest friends and the most amazing fireworks show I have ever seen.
Day 5 Lunch with Tati and brief stop at Ipanema beach before heading to the airport.

Salvador, Brazil

January 1-4

Day 1 Late arrival from the airport left just enough time for dinner in the old city followed by drinks outside while listening to some live music.
Day 2 Half-day tour of the city followed by free time exploring the old city on our own on foot. Stops at the Lacerda Elevator and the Mercado Modelo. Dinner and drinks at night in the Jardin Brasil and Barra neighborhoods.
Day 3 Day trip to Morro do São Paulo via catamaran to explore the island beaches. Back in the evening for dinner and a live music performance by Odolum.
Day 4 Up bright and early at 5:45am to make our way to the airport.

Iguazu Falls

January 4-6

Day 1 Landed at Foz do Iguaçu on the Brazil side and crossed the border into Argentina via bus. Walking tour of Puerto Iguazu during the day. Out in the downtown area at night for dinner.
Day 2 Full-day tour of Iguazu Falls at the Iguazú National Park on the Argentina side. The tour included hiking trails around the falls and a boat ride into the mist of the falls.
Day 3 Half-day tour of Iguazu Falls at the Iguaçu National Park on the Brazilian side. Great panoramic views of the falls. Left for the airport by mid-afternoon.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

January 6-11

Day 1 Arrived in the early evening. Checked in to our hotel and headed to the Palermo neighborhood for dinner and drinks.
Day 2 Lazy morning and late lunch around 2pm. Dropped off laundry and took a walking tour of the Recoleta neighborhood. Late night clubbin at Club 69.
Day 3 Continued walking tour of Buenos Aires with stops at the Recoleta Cemetary & the famous Floralis GenŽrica. Dinner in San Telmo and a late night stop at Million in Recoleta.
Day 4 Stadium tour of Boca Juniors stadium. Visit to the La Boca neighborhood and Caminito for live, outdoor tango performance. Quick stop at the Obelisco in the later afternoon. Dinner and drinks with Molly and Warren in Palermo.
Day 5 Slept-in and spent a lazy afternoon at a coffee shop in Palermo with Molly & Warren. Walking tour of Centro including at stop at Congress. Dinner at La Cabrera and wrapped up the evening with drinks in San Telmo.
Day 6 Lunch with Warren at La Biela and then off to the airport at around 2pm.

Ushuaia, Argentina

January 11-14

Day 1 Early evening arrival. Late night dinner on the main drag of Ushuaia, followed by drinks at Dublin, the first real tourist bar we've been able to find.
Day 2 Full-day tour that included canoeing on the Beagle Channel, a visit to Hammer Island to visit the penguins, and a 3km hike through the countryside.
Day 3 Full-day tour of Tierra del Fuego National Park that included an 8km hike along the shores of Ensenada Bay & Lapataia Bay as well as a motorboat ride to Redondo Island for an hour of free time.
Day 4 Lazy morning followed by lunch and souvenir shopping on the main drag before heading to the airport in the early afternoon.

El Calafate, Argentina

January 14-16

Day 1 Late afternoon arrival. Dinner at yet another all-you-can-eat-meat restaurant. A hunt for nightlife turned into an early night.
Day 2 Up bright and early for a Catamaran tour of Lago Argentino and several glaciers including the Upsala, Spegazzini, and Perito Moreno glacier. Dinner and drinks in town at night.
Day 3 Another full day tour focused entirely on the Perito Moreno glacier. Hiking the glacier in the morning, lunch and free time at its base, and a visit to the viewing platforms where we watched large chunks of the glacier fall off and into Lago Argentino.

Buenos Aires, Argentina (Again)

January 17

Day 1 Technically an early morning arrival at 12:30am. Out to a Buenos Aires club followed by bedtime at about 7am. After a long nap/sleep, a final late lunch back at La Cabrera with Warren. Back to his place to pack and then on to the airport for our long return flight home.
